SPEY ZONE- Sage Switch Rod Line Recommendations

Here is a list of lines that were tried out on the Sage Z-Axis Switch Rods.  These are some of the hottest rods that I have ever cast.  Great for overhead and spey casting.
  • Z-Axis Switch Rod- 5110-4

Single-handed, overhead casting:

Spey casting & overhead casting:

WF-5, WF-6, Shooting Heads 28’ 175-260 grains, Windcutter 4/5 (320 grains)

Rio or SA Steelhead Taper WF-8 (410-430 grains),

Windcutter 4/5 (320 grains)

Comments:

When spey casting, I preferred a WF-8-F, Rio Atlantic Salmon Steelhead Taper (425 grains).

When using the WF-8-F line for overhead casting, picking up more than 50’ was difficult, as rod tip wants to collapse.

I would recommend on line size heavier for overhead casting. Beginning spey casting students excelled very quickly when spey casting with this rod and the Windcutter 4/5.
