Group Classes - Fly Fishing for Shad on the
American River

Catching these herring from the sea on a fly rod can be a thrill. Since they travel in schools, it’s not uncommon to catch several fish after the first one is hooked. Most are around 2-3 lbs. The American River is the perfect place to catch shad on the fly rod. In this class will we cover the important information needed to fish for shad including access and equipment. Class will be held on the American River.

Class Schedule

Class Duration: Classes are held in the afternoon from 4:00 PM until dark. on the scheduled dates listed below.

Meeting Place: Kiene's Fly Shop

Equipment needed: Fly Rod and Reel Outfit #6-#8 weight rod, sinking tip fly line (Teeny 200 style), or shooting heads, Leader (4’ 1X-2X), shad flies, waders and valid fishing license.

Class Fees: $50.00 per person

Private lessons are also available, call for rates and appointment.

Payment/Cancellation Policy: Class must be paid for in full 14 days before the class date. Arrangements can be made for signups within the 14 day period. Cancellations made 14 days or more prior to the class date will receive a full refund if paying check or cash. A 5% credit card processing fee will be charged on all credit card refunds. Cancellations made within 14 days of the class date will forfeit their full payment unless that space is filled.
