Trinity River Spey Casting School
Jeff Putnam Fly Fishing Schools in conjunction with The Straw House Resort, Gold Coast Guide Service and Rivers Edge Guide Service is proud to present the first annual Spey School on the Trinity River. You will be introduced to the basic principles of spey casting. Covered in this class will be discussions on spey rods, lines, reels and leaders. The class begins in a group discussion while the instructors provide demonstrations on spey casting principles. Next the students separate and practice. The instructors work at the pace of the students while cycling through the group for the remainder of the lesson.
During the casting instruction, the instructor will teach the most common spey casts for beginners including the Switch Cast, Single Spey, Snap-T, Snake Roll and Double Spey. Intermediate spey casters often attend this class to learn how to cast sinktips, fine-tune their skills, try different casting styles, and try new spey rods including Jeff's new spey rods. There will be plenty of one on one attention and you will also be able to practice your skills on the river while fishing.
Once your skills have been honed in the first half day instruction session, you will be taken on the river by one of our guides where you will be able to fish several different section of the river and receive more instruction. You will then return for dinner, company, and conversation to discuss your day at the Straw House Resort. The following day you will receive another half day on instruction, breakfast and lunch before departing The Straw House Resort.
This is an all inclusive trip in which you will receive all meals, 2 nights lodging, guide service and instruction. Meals and lodging are on site and will include wine with dinner. Itinerary for the trip is as follows:
